1 the turn of the century - the beginning of a new century.
2 come home (to) idiom -  to become clearly understood.
3 play to someone's strengths -  to take advantage of what someone is good at.
4 bring something to the table -  to make a valuable contribution to a discussion, project etc.
5 get the better of -  defeat, beat, conquer.
6 in the nick of time -  just in time, at the critical moment, at the last moment.
7 lay something to rest -  to end something.
8 play one's cards -  make use of the opportunities/chances.
9 be off the charts -  be at an extreme or unanticipated level.
10 at hand -  close by/ nearby, coming, imminent.
11 in fits and starts -  intermittently, irregularly, now and then.
