- 1. Concerted - involving a lot of people or organizations working together in a determined way
- 2. Edge - an advantage that makes someone or something more successful than other people or things
- 3. Turmoil - a state of confusion, uncertainty, or disorder
- 4. Intervention - the act or fact of becoming involved intentionally in a difficult situation
- 5. Referendum - a vote in which all the people in a country or an area are asked to give their opinion about or decide an important political or social question
- 6. Tribulation - a problem or difficulty
- 7. Defend - to protect someone or something against attack or criticism; to speak in favour of someone or something
- 8. Allegation - a statement, made without giving proof, that someone has done something wrong or illegal
- 9. Graft - dishonest or illegal activities in politics or business that involve giving people money or advantages in exchange for their help or support
- 10. Decisive - a decisive victory or defeat is one in which the winner does much better than the loser
- 11. Verdict - an opinion or decision made after judging the facts that are given
- 12. Reap - to get something as a result of something that you do
- 13. Incumbency - the fact of having an official position
- 14. Adequate - enough or satisfactory for a particular purpose
- 15. Persisting - continues to exist
- 16. Pitch - the things that you say to convince someone to support you
- 17. Significant - important or noticeable
- 18. Conversely - used for introducing a sentence, or part of a sentence, which says something that is the opposite of the other part
- 19. Lament - to express sadness and feeling sorry about something
- 20. Apart from - except for someone or something
- 21. Formidable - causing you to have fear or respect for something or someone because that thing or person is large, powerful, or difficult
- 22. Take something into account - to consider or remember something when judging a situation
- 23. Defector - a person who leaves his or her own country or group to join an opposing one
- 24. Empower - to give someone official authority or the freedom to do something
- 25. Overwhelming - very great or very large
- 26. Uphill battle - difficult to do or to achieve
- 27. Bifurcation - the fact that something is divided into two parts or the act of dividing something into two parts
- 28. Devastating - causing a lot of damage or destruction
- 29. Impact - a powerful effect that something, especially something new, has on a situation or person
- 30. Agrarian - relating to the land, especially the use of land for farming
- 31. Consequent - happening as a result of something
