- 1. HDI - Human Development Index
- 2. Outlay - an amount of money spent on something.
- Pose - to ask a question
- 3. Liberalisation -to make laws or rules less strict so that people have more freedom
- 4. Life expectancy - the length of time that someone is likely to live
- 5. Discrimination - unfair treatment of someone because of their religion, race, or other personal features
- 6. Inheritance - money or objects that someone gives you when they die
- 7. Reform - an improvement
- 8. Persist - if an unpleasant feeling or situation persists, it continues to exist
- 9. Severe - extreme or very difficult
- 10. Deprived - not having the things that are necessary for a pleasant life, such as enough money, food, or good living conditions
- 11. Break free - to escape from an unpleasant person or situation that controls your life
- 12. Underachiever - someone who is less successful than they should be at school or at work
- 13. Fiscal - connected with (public) money
- 14. Quintile - one of five equal measurements that a set of things can be divided into
- 15. Aviation - the activity of flying aircraft, or of designing, producing, and keeping them in good condition
- 16. Bolster - to support or improve something or make it stronger
- 17. Conscious - noticing that something exists or is happening and realizing that it is important
- 18. Indices - plural of index (a number that shows the price, value, or level of something compared with something else)

- 20. Convention - a formal agreement between governments of different countries about how they should behave towards each other or towards the people in their country
- 21. Enforce - to make people obey a law, or to make a particular situation happen or be accepted

- 23. Crafted - to make objects, in a skilled way
- 24. Emerging - just beginning to exist or be noticed
- 25. Urbanisation - the process by which towns and cities grow bigger and more and more people go to live in them
- Deficit - the total amount by which something is less than required
